Welcome Home

Flakes of plaster suspended
from crumbling walls
once shelter from winds and rain
neglected by time
an unloved, forgotten memory.
Endlessly swinging on rusty hinges
through the damp-laden air
delicately carved wood
casting a shadow on intricate tiled patterns
that once whispered ‘welcome home’
