Sonnets

The chalice of identity, a name
A label for society to claim
Beyond the name, a soul needs to be free
Released from chains that tie the heart in place
A tag dictating how our life should be
This name cannot show the spirit within
It is but a symbol describing who
Just a name it does not mean anything
To truths held deep inside it gives no clue
It means nothing yet it’s everything
All feels lost in another time and space
While changes come the soul remains the same
As now the old must bid a last adieu
And papers say this chosen name is me
