Blank Verse

Blank Verse is constructed lines of iambic pentameter without a rhyme scheme. For longer poems, it can be divided into stanzas of varying length or stanzas of equal length.

Example: Dreamer by Jez Farmer

I see my lady sleep and read her dreams
Of different times in a distant place
Before I arouse her mind with love’s kiss
And as she awakes I take up her hand
To hold it gently on my moistened lips
One day closer until the future is ours
When we can sail away across those seas
To find the place her dreams reveal each night
And I hear her whisper of as she sleeps
Before softly calling out both our names.
