Prompt: Why creative writing
Oddly enough moving away from introspective writes to creative ones is starting with an introspective write. Such is the way of the writer, I guess.
Art, literature, poetry and music have long been part of my life even though I am a believer of science over religion, evolution over creation. My skill set has always been in the creative arts, and despite attempts in my early life to avoid it, it is where I function best.
It is through writing that I learned to understand and accept me and ultimately take my life in the direction I needed to be. I also love doing it. There is a lot to be said in the old saying – do something you love for a living, and you never have to work a day in your life’. I am not saying it isn’t demanding work as it is, and it can be as monotonous as hell when working through edit after edit.
On a private level, it is writing and painting that help me deal with my bipolar and keep the lows to a minimum as I can thrive in the high zone of creativity, and if I am writing, drawing or painting I am doing what I need to do and using the highs to my advantage. Simple fact if I take too long a break from it, I spiral to a low very quickly.
In a nutshell I write because I enjoy it, I write because it helps me care for me, I write because I can.
