Hiding Place

Form: Ballade

A secret shared in sweeping view
Mixed with rhymes at the end of lines
What else can a poet so do
But wordplay as he thus defines
But what word will give you the signs
To hear his deepest thoughts tonight
So sweet like the finest of wines
Hidden within the words I write

But such feelings are nothing new
Yet of universal design
And still I write while thinking you
As you sleep and the heavens shine
For the stars speak as they align
Searching the words to say it right
Without those words to make it mine
Hidden within the words I write

It’s harder than I thought, it is true
To say it without three in line
My instincts say these words you knew
And we both know how they define
When we kiss and taste the divine
Those words don’t need to be in sight
I think you’ll read them here just fine
Hidden within the words I write

And later when we share some wine
And we embrace in sheer delight
We’ll say those words as we recline
Hidden within the words I write
