Bacchus and Ariadne

Form: Blank Verse

A glass of ruby wine, a god in love
His woman that they left alone to die
Upon an island, abandoned by man
And her crown becomes the stars of the night
An honour that only a god can give
Now in the strokes of hedonistic art
With flowing wine there is music and song
The merriment of a god making love

Bacchus and Ariadne by Titian, 1520 – 23
