Seductive Power

Form: Ivorian Sonnet 30

Peitho – goddess of persuasion and seduction

The sweet words enticing the ear to love
Handmaiden, goddess smiling from above
In the persuasion of lyrical verse
The Sapphic seductive charms from the past
Into our modern times gently coerce
Through the lips of the gods in ancient Greek
That dallied with passion on Olympus
And the bard’s Mistress had a paler cheek
Revered in verses both kind a vicious
Today’s poets write so their heart’s converse
The feelings of love in ways they speak of
For passion through time, a sacred nimbus
As old as the gods but never antique
For the realms of love are so great and vast
