Getting Dressed

Form: Free Verse

She’s resting on the chaise longue
with glazed eyes of contemplation
oh, what to choose
the lustrous sheen of taffeta
or the ichorous flow of silk
and I watch as the white feathered fan
sends cool waves slowly across her skin
and my fingers caress the rigidity
of the black jewel case
holding the iridescent rope
I have chosen for her neck
almost as radiant as her eyes
and she chooses silk
of soft pear-green cascading to her feet
and I watch as she dresses her hair
leaving her neck bare
naked and waiting
for the smoothest of touches
from a new string of pearls
