Each Day as It Comes

Form: Burns’ Sonnet

I don’t do pretty behind a fake mask
No labels dictating the this and that
The fakery deals now too much to ask
Life’s no longer for others to pick at
I deal my own deck playing my own cards
No empty words can tell me what to do
No pretence of care I know is not true
Take me as me or leave with my regards
I’m not a sin to be left in the dark
In need of a religion’s magic fix
Just another guy in the human mix
Doing his thing, setting his own benchmark
I’m making mistakes and learning the way
To be just who I need to be today
