Hadid had already earned a reputation as a ‘paper architect’ with her creative and ambitious architectural drawings, when she won a design competition to a create a fire station at the Vitra factory 1989. The deign entitled ‘Movement Frozen’ refers to both the dynamic geometry and its being alert to respond to emergencies by bursting into action at any time. Glass and concrete in angled panels appeared stretched as if in perspective and demanding attention and a sense of urgency.

Hadid was an architect and the first woman to receive the acclaimed Pritzker Architecture Award. She received the prestigious Stirling Prize for Architecture in 2010 and 2011. She was made a Dame of the British Empire in 2012 for services to architecture. Hadid is the only woman to be awarded the Royal Gold Medal from the Royal Institute of British Architects
