Pride and Joy

Form: Ivorian Sonnet 46

Inside the walls, I want my place of peace
Where stress departs and tensions simply cease
When my long day’s done, and come to an end
I want you for my heart to come home to
My lover, my wife, my trusted best friend
Just talk to me and help me understand
Of things you feel, and of your desire
And humour me if it’s not as you planned
While we share the warmth in front of the fire
And as to our sleep we begin to ascend
You know it is my dreams you will inspire
For you are my reason in all I do
And before you sleep let me kiss your hand
For in my world you are my centrepiece
