Sangria Nights

Form: Raven’s Rovi Sonnet 77

On the table the pitcher waits for it
As the ice mingles with pieces of fruit
Then some orange juice for that citric hit
No measures tonight I’m using my eye
A bottle of Rioja, a quick stir
Soft brown sugar, sweetness within the dry
Bold, fruitiness of wine, and flavours blur
A gently whirl, mix the brandy liqueur
I’m feeling the night of Spanish spirit
Of chilled Sangria and the tapas plates
Of a tuneful guitar, an old wooden lute
My eyes meet yours in a candlelit sigh
The warmth of the firelight floats from the grate
The perfect mood for a stay at home date
