Sin Eater’s Supper

Author’s Note

A sin-eater is a person who consumes a ritual meal in order to spiritually take on the sins of a deceased person. The food was believed to absorb the sins of a recently dead person, thus absolving the soul of the person.

Form: Glosa

Texte:
And what is this world we have made:
Where everyone’s heaven is our sin,
The only sin left here is guilt.
Glosa:
And what is this world we have made
As we take much more than we need
With out a care it is our right
To take and take more in our greed
And what is this world we have made
When everyone’s heaven is our sin
When morals mean nothing at all
Until we see the end in sight
Too late, someone must take the fall
Where everyone’s heaven is our sin
The only sin left here is guilt
Until he comes with mead and bread
He’ll take away the sins tonight
He eats alone with one who’s dead
The only sin left here is guilt
