From out of the deepest, darkest night of the year comes a new-born sun bringing the promise of lighter, warmer days. I am reminded that true light comes from the darkness and chaos of life – possibly more than ever as 2020 draws to a close. It is the phoenix rising from the ashes of absolute destruction yet the continual rebirth of the sun also reminds me that destruction is temporary, even fantasy of my own misconceptions and life, love and energy are eternal and carry on.
Yule and Winter Solstice remind us of the opposite and complementary balance of existence as from great darkness comes light, within despair there is hope, in sadness there is joy – sometimes we have to find it and recognise it but it is there. Our task as witches is to always look for that spark and to nurture it into a blazing sun for ourselves and those around us.
Great god of the sun
We welcome your return
Shine brightly on the sacred moon
Shine brightly on this hallowed earth
And enlighten our souls with peace and love
Hail blessed king of the sun
Yuletide blessings of love and light
