Tomato Sonnet

Form: Raven’s Rovi Sonnet 93

On a summer’s day its juice shines the sun
In slices between the salad greens and plate
Or layered on cheese between burger and bun
Its summer sweetness runs unabated
Yet all that’s wasted in a ketchup jar
The fate of fruit for summer created
The only goodness in summer by far
While the crazy lounge out by a beach bar
This fruit of love ripens upon its vine
For that perfect moment we have to wait
For that moment the sunshine’s work is done
That first taste for which the summer is fated
Such sweetness it sends tingles down the spine
For that moment, it is simply divine
