Gentleman Alone

Form: Raven’s Rovi Sonnet 97

The dandy young men with the debutante girls
While the widows watched over cups of tea
An old time revue of cream cakes and pearls
Amused the old cat for an afternoon
Amid the tourists and stripy deck chairs
On a warm summer’s day in early June
And the old cat sauntered with graces and airs
Gentleman alone in a seaside town
And his nose sniffs at stale tobacco twirls
Fishermen coming ashore from the sea
Drawing on pipes, the old cat will eat soon
The old maid fills her basket with their wares
And supper calls a gentleman alone
Cat flap rattles as the dish is put down
