#Writephoto – Prisoner

KL Caley has another prompt waiting for writers to umm do their thing and write. You can find it here – https://new2writing.wordpress.com/2021/05/13/writephoto-tower/. My take on the prompt with thanks to KL for the inspiration

Prisoner

Did you hear it, poet
whilst lost in your daydreams
overthinking a line
debating the value of a comma
did you hear the gentle echo
of the wind chimes
did you feel it ripple on your thigh
like a pebble ripples still water
or are you oblivious
up there in your ivory tower
like a prisoner in the dark ages
facing the torture of words
dragging them out of your soul
as your body arches in agony
stretched out on the rack of pen and ink
Please, come down from your high tower
and listen
to the howling of the wind
the pitter-patter of raindrops
a thrush singing in the sunshine
cos it makes no sense
to hide in your make-believe pretence
come down from your tower, poet
and let your soul out
to dance free in the arms of nature

  1. Oh, I love this. So dark, brooding and mysterious. Also, I fear, so very true. It is so easy to get caught up in the act of writing that you miss out on the living. However, I think I could do with spending a week in a writing tower to stop myself procrastinating – haha.
Thank you for joining in the challenge
