Crushing Love

Form: Raven’s Rovi Sonnet 115

I once fell in love when I was a child
Unrequited love, she never saw me
I was just a kid, spirited and wild
But I loved her with a love more than love
A love that exploded throughout my heart
Her blonde hair, blue eyes, all I could think of
My first love and it tore my soul apart
For on her finger shone a wedding ring
I was a child, a newbie to love’s art
And that first crushing love is never mild
But still I dreamt one day she would be free
So I could declare my feelings of love
It never happened, no, of course, no such thing
But back in the day, she made my heart sing
